Kentucky History Center

CARMAN was commissioned to provide planning, design and engineering for the historic block in downtown Frankfort known as the Old Governor's Mansion and Kentucky History Center Block. Plans included construction documents for the restoration of the streetscape, including a brick sidewalk and stone stairway along High and Clinton Streets in front of the Old Governor's Mansion. In addition, streetscape enhancements were made for the full block perimeter for the new Kentucky History Center. In conjunction with the streetscape enhancements, a public plaza also was designed to host large gatherings for events associated with the History Center. Working in conjunction with the Kentucky Heritage Council and the Division of Historic Properties, CARMAN incorporated historically correct brick patterns and installation methods to restore the historic character of the street frontage adjacent to the Old Governor's Mansion, the oldest official residence still in use in the United States.
