Eastern Kentucky University Family Scholar House

CARMAN provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services for the Eastern Kentucky University Family Scholar House. The design team provided professional services, which includes: preliminary plans and specifications that meet KHC program requirements, review of environmental assessment material, preparation of bidding and contract documents, and architectural inspection/reporting during actual construction.

The Scholar House is a housing and education initiative that enables the head-of-household to reach self-sufficiency. The housing and education components are operated as one unit with housing depending on the client’s successful participation in the affiliated educational institution. Program participants receive counseling, workshops and support from neighbors and staff, while fulfilling academic or vocational training coursework as full-time students.

The Eastern Kentucky University Family Scholar House includes an on-site child care facility to allow time for the parents to attend classes and focus on their education.
