FRANKFORT WAYFINDING

City of Frankfort | Frankfort, Kentucky | 2015

CARMAN was commissioned to complete the Wayfinding Master Plan for the City of Frankfort. Working with a committee comprised of City employees and representatives from a broad base of community organizations, the CARMAN team helped identify points of interest within the City, develop a family of signage that works well with the wide range of architectural types found within the City, and create a plan for implementing the new signage system within the Downtown area.  CARMAN prepared construction documents for the first phase, which has been completed.  Currently the office is working on a Wayfinding Master Plan Update.

CARMAN professional services included:

  • Assess the existing system within the Downtown.

  • Identify the points of interest to be included in the signage messaging.

  • Develop a sign family that will work within Downtown as well as the surrounding City.

  • Prepare a Master Plan that identifies existing signage to be removed, new sign locations and types, and phasing.

  • Prepare construction documents and assist City in bidding process.

The City was awarded a Kentucky TAP grant for full implementation of the downtown Wayfinding.
